5 Mistakes You’re Making When Cooking Pasta

There are plenty of dishes that can be prepared using pasta, and everyone has their own way of making it and their favorites. But what are the mistakes you’re making when the dish doesn’t turn out quite right?

  • Adding olive oil to the boiling water:

Although many will swear that adding oil to the boiling water keeps the pasta from sticking together, it is actually a waste of oil and time. The best way to keep pasta from sticking together is to make sure you stir it every 2 minutes while it cooks.

  • Only adding salt to pasta sauce:

You cannot omit salt from the boiling water and count on the salt in the sauce to make your pasta taste right. Salt is a main component to be added to the boiling water first. Follow the instructions on Perfetto pasta packs for the best results.

  • Breaking spaghetti strands in half to cook it faster:

This is a very common misconception. The only thing breaking spaghetti does is make it shorter. Cooking time stays the same.

  • Boiling the pasta for too long:

You only need to keep the water boiling for 2 minutes after dipping the pasta into it. After that, you can turn the heat off and let it finish cooking in the hot water.

  • Completely draining the pasta:

It is preferable not to keep the pasta in a colander after draining it, and to save some of the pasta water for the sauce preparation.

You can find a step-by-step guide to preparing the perfect pasta on all Perfetto packages!
